Today, I want to share three powerful lessons that I’ve learned throughout my journey with the Lord. These aren’t just theories — they are truths shaped through experience, through process, and through intimacy with God. My prayer is that what you’re about to read will bless your life just as much as it has transformed mine.
1. Not All Emotions Are Hormonal: Learn to Discern What You’re Feeling
As women, we often blame our sadness, frustration, or mood swings on hormonal changes. And yes — our bodies do go through cycles. But not every emotion you feel is hormonal. I’ve learned that many times, our emotions can be spiritual — a subtle attack, confusion, or even a sign of something within us that needs healing.
God created us with emotions, and that’s beautiful! But we can’t let our emotions control us. If you ever feel sad or angry out of nowhere — and you can’t pinpoint, why — pause and pray. Don’t act on your emotions. Ask the Lord:
“God, why am I feeling this way?”
Sometimes, what you’re experiencing emotionally is part of a spiritual battle. If we don’t stop to ask God what’s really going on, our emotions can pull us away from Him.
“Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your wrath.” (Ephesians 4:26)
2. Know the Enemy’s Schemes: Not Everything Is What It Seems
One of the best pieces of advice I ever received came from my pastor:
“Learn to recognize the enemy’s schemes.”
We all know what our weaknesses and temptations are. But do you know the patterns Satan uses to lead you there? Many times, we don’t realize how we got into a trap until we’re already stuck in it.
Think about Samson. He flirted with danger, thinking he could handle it. He ignored the red flags and let his guard down. In the end, he lost everything — including the presence of God — and he didn’t even notice when it left him.
Don’t play around with what God is warning you about. What seems small and harmless today can destroy you tomorrow.
“...so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” (2 Corinthians 2:11)
3. Your Mind Is a Battlefield: Guard What You Allow In
When the enemy can no longer get to you through your environment, he’ll try to get to you through your mind. Thoughts of fear, doubt, insecurity, discouragement… Sound familiar?
The enemy can’t read your mind — but he can send fiery darts (thoughts) to influence it.
If your spirit isn’t strong in that moment, those thoughts will drop into your heart. And once they’re in your heart, they’ll start affecting your emotions… and eventually your actions.
“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6)
It’s so important to recognize what’s from God and what’s not. Don’t let every thought settle in your mind. Test it. Filter it through Scripture. If it doesn’t align with God’s truth — rebuke it.
These three lessons aren’t just “one-and-done.” God will often take us through the same tests more than once — not to punish us, but to strengthen our response and deepen our trust in Him.
- Emotions must be surrendered to the Spirit.
- Temptations must be discerned early.
- Our minds must be renewed daily with the Word of God.
Maybe today you feel like you’ve fallen into one of these traps. Let me encourage you — you are not alone. Ask the Lord for discernment. Ask Him to expose the enemy’s schemes. Ask Him to help you run from temptation like Joseph, repent like David, and avoid carelessness like Samson.
